Participants : Beards BeCAUSE : The founders of Beards BeCAUSE, Jared Yerg and Scott Doerr, are just a few regular guys who came up with a great idea on a Sunday afternoon and put some thoughts down on a cocktail napkin. Our idea is to have a unique, fun, and successful fundraiser while raising awareness about the issue of domestic violence and making a positive impact and contribution to the Charlotte Battered Women's Shelter. The Battered Women's Shelter was chosen to raise awareness and much needed funds for an issue that impacts all of us. The abuse of women and children is intolerable, and we are hoping that bringing the issue to light will help more women realize that they are in unhealthy relationships and give them courage to make a change, while at the same time providing much needed funds to take care of these women and their families. We felt that doing something that is a symbol of masculinity, growing a beard, in support of these women's plight had a nice dichotomy.

I never really had a reason to grow a beard before and after hearing about this great cause, I thought, hey why not!? . I travel a lot for my job and sometimes have to be clean shaven in accordance with safety regulations for the company that hires us , but I will keep this growing as long as I can. I�ve donated to other charities before and have participated in different races for good causes but this one seems to be interesting to me. A large number of my friends and family are teachers and I�ve heard stories about abusive parents and its very upsetting to me. Sometimes kids can�t get away from a parent so where could they go; a shelter, which is what we�re trying to raise money for. This charity is fulfilling to me because I am actually going out and talking to others about domestic abuse and I�m raising money to help out with the shelter in Pittsburgh. The beard is just a bonus. Plus Chuck Norris has one.
